La Locavore de BBQ

You know you’re a “locavore” when…the local paper does an article about eating locally and you personally know everyone quoted in the article.
The San Diego Union Tribune’s food section this week was dedicated to the “County’s Bounty,” in the form of an article on eating locally by respected beer columnist (and reporter) Pete Rowe. Thanks [...]

Eating local and summer

It dawned on me the other week that had been almost a year since the start of last year’s One Local Summer. The exercise involved committing to eat one completely local meal just once a week, for each week of the summer. It was amazing, and that is an understatement. I started out knowing [...]

harbor monstrosity

Has anyone else seen the ginormous sculpture of the sailor kissing the lady in the San Diego harbor? Why aren’t there more of these around town?

drive-by blogging: toronado

Well, I might as well follow up my post about the new Liars Club with a post about what will possibly (?) be its central San Diego replacement.

Seriously, I’m pretty damn good at it–once I’m out, I’m out like a light. I’ve slept through earthquakes, thunderstorms, and a [...]

this song is for you my brother

Sometimes the news doesn’t really hit home until someone smacks …you in the face … with it.
The Liars Club in Mission Beach is hova. I’ve known this for weeks, sadly craning my neck as I ride by, only to see dark windows and barstools stacked upon tables. But until I received the bargoer email [...]

Get thee to a bussery

That’s right kids. Take the bus today.
Apparently Washington Mutual is sponsoring bus fares today, which means that today’s bus rides are free! So if you’re contemplating heading out for lunch, or heading down to Canes for the Hold Steady concert this fine evening, give the old public transit a try (the 8 or 9 [...]
